Diocesan Synod

Our diocese is currently undertaking a diocesan synod to better understand and meet the needs of our communities in the modern world.

As the future of our faith in our diocese, the voices of our young people are key to the success of our diocesan synod to ensure that we – guided by the Holy Spirit – are working to build the Church of the future.

To help our young people engage with this important process, our youth ministry team has been visiting schools and colleges across the diocese to record their responses, while two members of our young adult community have been working hard to engage with young adults in our parishes.

The Next Chapter

Our diocesan synod is now entering the next key stage of the process, in which we further discern and reflect on the 30,000+ responses from last year’s Big Listen.

To find out more about the next steps for our young people, as well as further resources, please see the drop down list below.

We are so grateful for the support and engagement of our schools and colleges during the process so far.

Further consideration must also be taken to explore ways in which parishes might respond to address some of the points highlighted by our young people in the Big Listen exercise.

Over the coming weeks and months, the team will be having conversations with a range of relevant parties to facilitate a robust response to the Big Listen that is supported in parish, school, and family life.

Young adults across the Diocese of Salford are invited to join us to take part in the next important stage of our Diocesan Synod.

This November, our Young Adults Synod Members will be leading a special theme gathering to further discern and discuss the themes to have emerged from last year’s Big Listen Exercise and to submit proposals for each of the themes. These are:

  • Nurturing Faith for Tomorrow’s World
  • Building Connections
  • Enabling Access
  • Fostering Christ-like Care

The meeting will take place after our next monthly Mass for Young Adults, which begins at 5.30pm on Sunday 10th November at St Augustine’s Church, Manchester. All are very welcome to attend!
