RIP Canon Tony Dorran
Friday 23rd March 2018It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Canon Tony Dorran who died peacefully on Thursday 22nd March 2018.
Canon Charles Anthony Dorran who died peacefully at The Manor House Nursing Home, Chatburn. Canon Dorran was in his ninetieth year, the sixty fifth year of his Sacred Priesthood. May he rest in peace.
Anthony was born on 31st May 1928 and was baptised on 3rd June 1928 at St Patrick’s, Oldham. He was educated at St Patrick’s, Oldham; Christian Brothers, Dingle; St Bede’s College; De La Salle College and St Mary’s Strawberry Hill.
Anthony was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in July 1947 and attended All Hallows College, Dublin. Fr Anthony Dorran was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood at the All Hallows College, Dublin on 21st June 1953.
Fr Dorran served the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:
1953-1953: St. Monica’s, Flixton Assistant Priest
1953-1960: St. Augustine’s, All Saints Assistant Priest
1960-1961: St. Hugh of Lincoln Assistant Priest
1961-1970: St. Mary’s (The Hidden Gem) Assistant Priest
1970-1994: St John’s, Bromley Cross Parish Priest
1994-2017: St. Mary’s, Osbaldeston Parish Priest
In July 1980 Canon Dorran was elected to the Cathedral Chapter. Canon Dorran retired in 2017 and continued to reside at St Mary’s, Osbaldeston.
Canon Dorran’s body will be received into St Mary’s church, Osbaldeston for concelebrated Mass at 7.00pm on Wednesday 4th April. Fr Leo Heakin, parish priest at St Mary’s will celebrate the Requiem Mass on Thursday 5th April at 12.00 noon followed by committal in the graveyard at St Mary’s
