Fr Vincent Naylor RIP Obituary Notice and Funeral Details
Wednesday 8th November 2023We are sorry to share the news Fr Vincent Naylor died peacefully on Sunday morning after a prolonged period of illness.
Fr Naylor was in his ninety sixth year, the forty seventh year of his Sacred Priesthood. May he rest in peace.
Vincent was born on 30th January 1928 in Lostock Hall, Preston and baptised on 12th February 1928 at English Martyrs, Preston. He was educated at Our Lady and St. Gerard, Lostock Hall and St. Bernadine’s College, Buckingham.
Vincent was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford on 20th May 1972 studying at Campion House, Osterley. He transferred to the Beda College, Rome on 30th March 1973.
Father Vincent Naylor was ordained to the Priesthood on 16th April 1977 at Our Lady and St. Gerard, Lostock Hall.
Fr Naylor served the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:
1997-1977: St. Michael, Whitefield (summer supply) as Assistant Priest
1977-1979: St. Thomas of Canterbury, Salford as Assistant Priest
1979-1980: St. Monica, Flixton, Manchester: as Assistant Priest
1980-1981: St. Mary, Denton, Manchester as Assistant Priest
1981-1981: Chaplain to Mary and Joseph House (for the homeless in the city) Ancoats
1981-1983: St. James, Pendleton, Salford as Assistant Priest
1985-1993: St. Hugh of Lincoln, Stretford as Assistant Priest and Chaplain to Park Hospital, Davyhulme
1993-1994: St. Philip, Kersal, as Parish Priest
1994-1996: Chaplain to Manchester Royal Infirmary
1996-1999: Holy Family, Kirkholt, Rochdale as Parish Priest
1999-2001: Chaplain to Little Sisters of the Poor, Plymouth Grove
2003-2005: Chaplain to Little Sisters, Jersey.
Fr Vincent retired in 2001. In retirement, he continued as chaplain to Little Sisters in Manchester and then Jersey. On his return to the Diocese, he resided in Walkden before moving to Cathedral House in 2014 and then to McAuley Mount in September 2020.
Fr Naylor’s body will be received into the temporary church at Salford Cathedral for concelebrated Mass at 7.00pm on Thursday 23rd November.
Bishop John will celebrate the Requiem Mass at the temporary church on Friday 24th November at 12:10pm.
