Fr Peter McGiveron RIP

We are sorry to share the sad news that Fr Peter McGiveron died peacefully early this morning.

Fr McGiveron was in his seventy ninth year, the thirtieth year of his Sacred Priesthood.  May he rest in peace.

Peter was born on 6^th December 1947 in Ordsall and baptised on 21^st December 1947 at St. Joseph’s, Ordsall. He was educated at Upholland College and the Metropolitan College of Law. He worked in the Legal Profession for a number of years.

Peter was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in June 1992 and studied at the Beda College in Rome.

Father Peter McGiveron was ordained to the Priesthood on 30^th June 1996 at St. Charles, Swinton.

Fr McGiveron served  the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:

1996 – 1997:        St. Mary, Burnley                     as Assistant Priest

1997 – 2003:        St. Alphonsus, Old Trafford     as Parochial Administrator

2003 – 2018:        St. Thomas More, Alkrington   as Parish Priest

2018 – 2023:        St. Joseph, Todmorden           as Parish Priest

Fr Peter retired in January 2023 and continued to reside in the presbytery in Todmorden. He moved to Nazareth House Care Home, Prestwich in late 2023.
