Obituary and funeral details for Fr Patrick Quinlan RIP

We are sad to share the news that Fr Patrick Quinlan died peacefully yesterday after a short illness.

Fr Quinlan was in his eighty fourth year, the fifty ninth year of his Sacred Priesthood.

Patrick was born on 14th March 1938 in Tralee, Co. Kerry and baptised on 17th March 1938 in St. John’s Church, Tralee. He was educated at the Christian Brothers’ School, Baldoyle College, Co. Dublin; Bray College, Co. Wicklow and then St Mary’s Teaching College in Marino, Dublin.

Patrick studied at the African Missions Seminary in Dromantine, Newry, Co. Down.

Fr Patrick Quinlan SMA was ordained to the Priesthood at Newry Cathedral on 18th December 1963.

Fr Quinlan’s appointments with the Society of African Missions were in:

Ijebu Ode, Nigeria:  Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, Nigeria: Ijebu Igbo, West State, Nigeria.

Fr Quinlan then came to the Diocese of Salford in November 1970. He was incardinated into Salford Diocese on 1st August 1975, serving the Diocese in the following appointments:

 

1970-1972:       St. Joseph’s, Salford as Assistant Priest

1972-1977:       Our Lady and St. Patrick, Walton-le-Dale as Assistant Priest

1977-1981:       St. Mary’s, Burnley as Assistant Priest

1981-1985:       Chaplain to Bolton General Hospital

1984-1985:       St John Vianney, Blackburn as Assistant Priest

1985-2006:       Sacred Heart, Westhoughton as Assistant Priest then Parish Priest from                  1986

In 2006, Fr Patrick retired.

Fr Quinlan’s body will be received into Sacred Heart Church, Westhoughton, for concelebrated Mass at 7.00pm on Tuesday 22nd March.

Bishop John will celebrate the Requiem Mass at Sacred Heart on Wednesday 23rd March at 12.00 noon.

Fr Patrick will be buried in the family grave in Tralee.
