Fr Francis Austin RIP Obituary and Funeral Notice

We are sorry to share the sad news that Fr Francis Austin died peacefully today.

Father Francis Austin, who died on Saturday 17th January at Little Sisters of the Poor Care Home in Longsight. Fr Austin was in his ninety eighth year, the sixty sixth year of his Sacred Priesthood.  May he rest in peace.

Francis was born on 14th December 1928 in Brook’s Bar, Manchester and baptised on 6th January 1929 at St Alphonsus, Brook’s Bar. He was educated at St Bede’s College and Osterley College.

Francis was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in June 1954 and transferred to the English College in Lisbon in September 1954.

Father Francis Austin was ordained to the Priesthood on 11th June 1960 at the English College in Lisbon

Fr Austin served  the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:

1960-1980:     St. Bede’s College as a member of Staff 

1980-1994:     St. Gregory’s, Farnworth as Parish Priest

1994-2004:     Holy Cross, Patricroft as Parish Priest

1995-2000:     Dean of St. John’s Deanery

2004-2022:     Chaplain to Alexian Brothers Care Centre, later known as St Mary’s Care Centre, Moston

Fr Francis moved to Little Sisters of the Poor Care Home, Longsight in November 2022.

Fr Austin’s body will be received into the Chapel at Little Sisters of the Poor for concelebrated Mass at 5.00pm on Wednesday 18th February. Bishop John will celebrate the Requiem Mass at Little Sisters of the Poor on Thursday 19th February at 12:00noon
