Fr Brendan Curley RIP Obituary and Funeral Arrangements

We are very sorry to share the sad news that Fr Brendan Curley died suddenly after a short period of illness on Saturday 26th October at Manchester Royal Infirmary. Fr Curley was in his seventy second year, the forty seventh year of his Sacred Priesthood.

Brendan was born on 17th April 1953 in Salford and baptised on 22nd April 1953 at St James, Pendleton. He was educated at St James Primary School and De la Salle Prep. School.

Brendan was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford on 26th June 1964 attending St Bede’s College as a boarder. In July 1972 he began studies at the Royal English College, Valladolid.

Father Brendan Curley was ordained to the Priesthood on 15th July 1978 at the Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist, Salford.

Fr Curley served the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:

1978-2001: St. John’s Cathedral, Salford as Assistant Priest

1986-2001: St. John’s Cathedral, Salford as Administrator of the Cathedral

2001-2024: St. Cuthbert’s, Withington as Parish Priest

2008-2012: Also responsible for St. Bernadette’s, Withington

Fr Curley’s body will be received into St Cuthbert’s Church, Withington for concelebrated Mass at 7.00pm on Wednesday 27th November. Bishop John will celebrate the Requiem Mass at St. Cuthbert’s on Thursday 28th November at 12:00am followed by committal at St Mary’s Cemetery, Wardley.
