Deafness and BSL Awareness

Caritas Diocese of Salford is holding an event to help improve communication and accessibility for people with a registered hearing loss.

There are over 11 million people in the UK who have a registered hearing loss. This equates to one person in every six. Clinical Commissioning Groups document more than 12,500 British Sign Language users in the North West of England.

What will be in the session:
• Language: The positive and negative language used to describe deafness, Language differences and linguistic barriers, what is, and what is not, British Sign Language

• Support: Technological aids, communication professionals and support roles

• Strategies: Positive communication and integration strategies

• Question & Answer: ask questions without judgment.

The session will be delivered with a British Sign Language/English interpreter. If you have any other access requirements, please let us know.
