An unmissable event that seeks to highlight the cry of the Amazon is coming to Manchester this weekend.

Join CAFOD in welcoming indigenous leader and activist, Mauricio Ye’kuana, as he speaks about unprecedented humanitarian and environmental crises in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest.

Mauricio has been living under death threat for his work to protect the Yanomami Indigenous Territory from illegal invaders in the Brazilian Amazon and will talk directly about the threats faced by the Yanomami and Ye’kuana from approximately 20,000 illegal gold miners.

The talk is due to take place between 2pm and 3.30pm on Saturday 11 June at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, where breath-taking exhibition Amazônia from photographer Sebastião Salgado is currently on display.

This event will be the official UK launch of the recent report, Yanomami Under Attack, published by CAFOD’s partner organisation, Hutukara Yanomami Association, and includes time for a Q&A session and a visit to the exhibition Amazônia.
