Care for Creation: Resources from University of Manchester and Diocese of Salford
Tuesday 11th August 2026New resources help Catholic communities connect salvation and care for creation
Ahead of The Season of Creation, our diocesan Environment team have worked alongside The University of Manchester to create a collection of Catholic formation resources designed to help clergy, parishioners, schools and other groups deepen their understanding of creation care and translate faith into practical action.
Entitled Salvation and Creation Care, the resources have been developed through close collaboration with Professor Peter Scott of The University of Manchester. They are available free of charge and offer different levels of engagement for parishes, deaneries, schools and colleges, clergy, and lay people across the UK.
The resources place care for creation within the wider Christian understanding of salvation. Their central themes—communion, reconciliation and redemption—invite participants to consider the relationships between God, humanity and the whole created world, as well as the practical changes that can follow from this theological reflection.
The three resources
Salvation and Creation Care: A Course for Catholic Parishes
A ready-to-use, three-session course suitable for parishes, deaneries, schools and colleges. Built around three short videos, a participants’ booklet and a detailed leader’s handbook, it can be delivered over three evenings or as part of a retreat or away day. No prior specialist knowledge is required of the course leader.

Salvation and Creation Care: Formation
A three-session formation resource for priests. Structured around the Catholic method of see, judge and act, it supports clergy in offering pastoral guidance, addressing creation care in preaching, developing a prophetic voice and encouraging practical action within parish communities.

Exploring God’s Creation in Catholic Theology
A one-session resource for lay participants, designed to develop ecotheological awareness and connect Catholic faith and life with active care for creation. The session can be offered during an evening, retreat or away day.

A Diocesan Commitment
The initiative supports the Diocese of Salford’s continuing commitment to ecological conversion and to practical action inspired by Catholic Social Teaching and Laudato Si’. The diocese’s environmental strategy presents care for creation as an integral part of Catholic faith, grounded in Christian hope and expressed through action at individual, parish, school and diocesan levels.

Professor Scott is available to help parishes and other groups identify the resource most appropriate to their context.
The Diocese of Salford has committed to a programme of environmental action, including a pathway towards carbon neutrality by 2038 and the development of the Laudato Si’ Centre at Wardley Hall.
