Lourdes at Home 2026
Tuesday 21st July 2026On 30th July, our diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes will begin, with people from across the diocese making the sacred journey along with our dedicated volunteers.
Whether you are travelling with us to Lourdes this year, or remaining at home, you are called to be part of this year’s pilgrimage by joining with us in prayer.
About Lourdes
As one of the world’s most famous places of pilgrimage, Lourdes welcomes approximately six million pilgrims from across the world each year, many of whom are people living with physical or mental illness.
The shrine marks the spot where Our Lady first appeared to St Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. During one of 18 apparitions, Our Lady instructed the young saint to drink from a spring. Seeing only a muddy puddle of water, the saint drank from the ground to the ridicule of many, but she returned the following day to find the water ran clear. Soon after, reports came of miraculous healings from people who had washed in the water. Since the discovery, thousands of people have reported unexplained healings, with over 70 being recognised as miraculous by the Church so far.
