Implementing our Diocesan Synod
Saturday 6th December 2025Our diocese reaches a key milestone as we share the beginnings of a plan to implement the recommendations of our Diocesan Synod.
These recommendations emerged from an in-depth, two-year consultation with people across the diocese, consisting of almost 30,000 responses. The recommendations, along with the results of the vote, can be viewed here.
The Implementation Stage
Following the vote, implementation groups have been formed to further explore some of the key themes identified through the process so far.
A document outlining these themes, along with suggested actions, can be downloaded here: Diocesan Synod Themes and Recommendations.
Together with diocesan trustees and leadership teams, our implementation groups were tasked to explore the recommendations in greater detail and to revisit the responses of the Big Listen and Exploration Stage of our Diocesan Synod. They aimed to identify what they thought our diocese should look like in five to ten years and how we might achieve that.
Both groups were aligned in their vision. They saw a diocese transformed by the Holy Spirit that is rooted in prayer, scripture, and a deep sense of community. They wanted our path forward to be one of hope, courage, and commitment, embracing the call to be a truly synodal Church.
Our synodal recommendations also strongly reflect this vision. By combining these recommendations, the feedback from our implementation groups, possible actions and potential barriers, we are beginning to develop an initial action plan. This plan is focused on seven key areas, several of which overlap with established subgroups.
A Vision of Hope and Growth
As we look to the next five to ten years, we see a vibrant, prayerful, and inclusive Church. Through shared vision, collaboration, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will grow as a diocese united in faith, hope, and love.
To begin our journey, our working groups have identified six themes and a number of suggested actions to respond to the recommendations of our Diocesan Synod.
