An Introduction to: A Call to Lead
Sunday 24th November 2024A new post-confirmation programme has been developed by Salford Youth Ministry and the Young Christian Workers Movement to bridge the gap between confirmation and adult formation.
Over the years, work in our parishes and schools has identified a need to provide further accompaniment for young people post confirmation, helping them to grow in faith and become active leaders of the parish community
“A Call to Lead” has been designed for use in parishes by groups of young people, accompanied by adults, including parish priests and catechists.
The programme aims to provide the tools, training, and teaching to engage the next generation of missionary disciples, to inspire a deepened sense of active faith, and to give young people the agency to use their gifts and talents for the good of all.
Mgr John Marsland, from YCW, explained a little more about the programme: “For its inspiration and way of working, it draws on the insight of a great pioneer who enabled young people to come together and become a force for change and new life. This pioneer was Father (later Cardinal) Joseph Cardijn who saw that young people’s lives were badly affected by negative influences in their schools, workplaces, social interaction and even families.
“Fr. Cardijn was convinced that young people themselves could overcome these influences and pressures by forming a group to follow a simple method that enabled them to see life more clearly, to reflect on things more deeply and to take action more effectively. This See, Judge, Act method, used by Pope Francis, is a tool in your hands to strengthen young leaders as followers of Christ and apostles of the good news of God’s kingdom for all young people.”
