Pilgrimages Announced for 2025 Year of Jubilee

Wednesday 17th July 2024

We are delighted to announce a number of pilgrimage opportunities in celebration of the 2025 Pilgrims of Hope Jubilee.

Pope Francis has designated 2025 as a Year of Jubilee, inviting people across the whole Church to celebrate at a local level, as well as coming together as one universal family.

With roots originating in the Old Testament, a Year of Jubilee now takes place once in every 25 years, offering each of us an opportunity to renew our relationship with God, each other, and all of creation.

At the heart of this uplifting celebration is the theme of pilgrimage – a quest to discover and leave behind all that separates us from God in the hope of finding renewed fulfilment, peace, and joy.

In his Bull of Indiction for the 2025 Year of Jubilee, Pope Francis proclaims: “Pilgrimage is of course a fundamental element of every Jubilee event. Setting out on a journey is traditionally associated with our human quest for meaning in life. A pilgrimage on foot is a great aid for rediscovering the value of silence, effort and simplicity of life. In the coming year, pilgrims of hope will surely travel the ancient and more modern routes in order to experience the Jubilee to the full.”

Our diocesan pilgrimages

In response to Pope Francis’ encouragement to embrace this rewarding tradition of pilgrimage, our diocesan Jubilee Coordination Team is delighted to offer a range of pilgrimages taking place in 2025.

These include our annual diocesan pilgrimages to Lourdes and Walsingham, an additional UK pilgrimage to Lindisfarne, an array of short, local pilgrimages here in our very own diocese, and a pilgrimage to Rome.

We are also delighted to be offering pilgrimages with our Diocesan Youth and Young Adults Ministry Team.

With options to travel overseas, local pilgrimages on our very doorstep, and resources for you to explore on your own or with your family or parish group, we hope to make prayerful pilgrimages an opportunity for all to experience in this upcoming Year of Jubilee.
