The Still Small Voice: Who is God calling you to be?

Sunday 8th May 2022

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is also known as “Good Shepherd Sunday” – a day traditionally observed by the Church as a day to pray for vocations and the priesthood.

In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus describing Himself as The Good Shepherd leading his flock, saying “I know them and they follow me.”

This image of the Good Shepherd returns later in the final chapter of John’s Gospel, when the risen Jesus appears once more to His disciples on the shores of the Sea of Tiberias. After asking Simon Peter if he loves Him, Jesus commands him to “feed my lambs”, establishing this link between the Church and the role of The Good Shepherd.

However, as the number of our active priests and seminarians continue to dwindle, what our Church and our diocese will look like in the future remains unclear.

This Good Shepherd Sunday, we want to reach out to all considering a vocation to the priesthood, and to thank and celebrate all of our priests and seminarians by taking a look at what the priesthood means to some of our parishioners.

This series celebrating the priesthood will run until the Church’s birthday at Pentecost on Sunday 5th June.

Please keep all of our priests, seminarians, and all considering a vocation to the priesthood in your prayers.
