Fr William Molloy RIP Obituary and Memorial Mass Details

We are sorry to share the sad news that Fr William Molloy died suddenly on Sunday 14th April at his home in Roscommon Town, Ireland.

Fr Molloy was in his sixty seventh year, the thirtieth year of his Sacred Priesthood.  May he rest in peace.

William Molloy was born on 11th August 1957 in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon and baptised on 15th August 1957 at St Patrick’s church, Castlerea. He was educated at St Paul’s National School and St Patrick’s Vocational School, both in Castlerea.

William was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in 1987 studying at Campion House, Osterley from 1988 until 1990, when he transferred to St Cuthbert’s College, Ushaw.

Father William Molloy was ordained to the Priesthood on 16th July 1994 at St Patrick’s, Castlerea.

Fr Molloy served  the Diocese of Salford in the following appointments:

1994-1995:     St. Kentigern, Fallowfield as Assistant Priest

1995-1996:     St. Patrick, Collyhurst as Assistant Priest

1996-1999:     Chaplain to Trafford General Hospital

1999-2002:     St. John, Rochdale as Assistant Priest

2002-2003:     Assistant Chaplain at North Manchester Hospital Chaplaincy

2003-2004:     St. Patrick, Collyhurst as Assistant Priest

2004-2007:     St. Mary Magdalene, Burnley  as Assistant Priest

2007-2012:     Holy Rosary, Fitton Hill as Parish Priest

2008-2012:     also responsible for Holy Family, Limeside

2012-2018:     Holy Infant & St Anthony, Astley Bridge as Parish Priest.

Fr Billy retired in 2018 and originally resided in Clifton (Salford). He returned to Ireland in July 2019, residing in Roscommon Town.

Fr Molloy’s Requiem took place at St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea, on Thursday 18th April at 11am, followed by burial in St. Coman’s Cemetery, Roscommon.

Bishop John will celebrate a Memorial Mass at The Holy Infant & St Anthony, Astley Bridge BL1 6QH on Thursday 16th May at 7pm.

Please note that, since Holy Infant & St Anthony does not have a parish hall, it will not be possible to serve refreshments after Mass.
