Walking Together

“Synod” simply means “journeying together”.

Pope Francis, following on from his invitation in 2013 for us to become “missionary disciples”, has called a Universal Synod which is taking place in every Catholic diocese across the world. The Synod is themed: “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission”This two-year journey’s (2021-23) goal is for all members of the church to be heard.

In 2022, more than 1500 people from across the diocese, with group submissions from parishes, schools, groups, and organisations, took part in our diocesan response, which you can read more about by clicking the buttons below:

National Synthesis

Our diocesan response was sent on to the Bishops Conference of England and Wales, which together with reports from other dioceses in England and Wales, contributed to a National Synthesis.

You can read a copy of the report here: Synod: National Synthesis – England and Wales

We are now in the Continental Phase of our synodal journey and bishops from around the world are set to gather in October to discern what the Holy Spirit is saying to the Universal Church through the people of God.
