A Jubilee of Jubilees

In celebration of this Holy Year of Jubilee, The Vatican has created a Calendar of Jubilees to shine a light on different areas of ministry within the Catholic Church.

Here in our Diocese, we have created our own calendar of Jubilees to highlight the range of ministries, services, and charisms in parishes, schools, and communities across the Diocese of Salford.

Each month, a particular area of our diocesan work will be showcased through a number of resources and information on how you can get involved.

Explore the drop down list below to find out more.

Our Jubilee resources begin this month by exploring more about how we can become missionary evangelists in the modern age.

Over the coming weeks, we will take a look at key feasts and Gospel readings to reflect on how these all-familiar texts challenge us to be the evangelists of the modern-world and reveal the hope of our faith to others.

The Epiphany: Sharing the Message of Hope

We begin our Jubilee for Communications with the Feast of the Epiphany, as we join Fr Chris Gorton to reflect on how the story of the Magi encourages us to proclaim the hope we find in Christ:

The Baptism of the Lord: Revealing the Nature of God

This feast is all about revealing the threefold nature of God by establishing Jesus as the second person of the Holy Trinity: “This is my son, the beloved.” Join us as we explore more about this familiar feast and what it can teach us about professing our faith in our world today.

Blessed in Belief: Reflection on the Wedding at Cana

Our Gospel this Sunday presents to us the story of the Wedding at Cana and the third powerful revelation of Jesus as the Son of God.

As we continue our story, we speak to Fr Frankie Mulgrew, Salford Cathedral’s Precentor, to further explore this story and how the role of Mary – our Mother – teaches us to profess our faith in our world today.

Proclaiming the Lord’s Year of Favour

This week, we take a look back at Sunday’s Gospel through the lens of all we’ve reflected on this January to consider how we are called to share in Christ’s mission to “proclaim the Lord’s Year of Favour”.

Mercy in the Jubilee Year – Plenary Indulgences

In this year of Jubilee, we are invited to leave behind our stubbornness and to open our hearts and minds to God by partaking in the Sacraments of the Church; through the Sacrament of Reconciliation and through His presence in Blessed Sacrament.

The Year of Jubilee also offers the opportunity for a special grace that wipes away the temporal punishment for sins already forgiven.

Holy Doors and Designated Churches

Holy Doors are one of the most characteristic signs of the Jubilee, inviting pilgrims to walk through as a sign of our desire to follow Christ, the Good Shepherd.

This Jubilee Year, four Holy Doors will be in situ across the City of Rome but dioceses around the world will have Designated Churches to offer pilgrims that same experience right on their doorstep.

Video Reflection on the Prodigal Son

We’re delighted to be joined by Fr David Featherstone, parish priest of the Parish of The Good Samaritan in Burnley, home to one of the six designated churches in our diocese. As we approach this Fourth Sunday of Lent, Fr David explores this week’s Gospel about the Prodigal Son through the lens of mercy in this Year of Jubilee.

Celebration of Human Dignity: The humble will be exalted
Sunday October 26th, 2025

“None of us is alone in this world; each of us is a vital piece of the great mosaic of humanity as a whole”. St Pope John Paul II

Caritas Salford’s annual Celebration of Human Dignity continues in this Jubilee Year of Hope, focusing on those who work to uphold the dignity of others.  Each year, we aim to align the celebration with the memorial of St Pope John Paul II who championed human dignity and the value and inviolability of human life in his many works, including Evangelium Vitae (1995).  Please join us for this year’s celebration which will take place on Sunday October 26th 10:30 am – 3.00 pm at Sacred Heart Church and Parish Centre, Gorton, Manchester, M18 7WJ.

This event is for anyone who wishes to acknowledge, celebrate and uphold human dignity. It will begin at 10:30am with Sunday Mass, celebrated by Bishop John Arnold and includes music from Sacred Heart Choir.  After Mass and a comfort break for refreshments, at 12:15pm, there will be presentations by guest speakers who will share their personal experiences of upholding the dignity of others and what this means for them. The day will also include a chance to network and to enjoy a free community lunch, concluding by 3.00 pm.

We believe that everyone should have opportunity to participate in all activities and try to be mindful of accessibility needs, including BSL/English interpreters.  Please do indicate when you book should you need us to consider anything specific for.  For more information, email accessibility@caritassalford.org.uk or you can book your place using this link.
