Looking for Summer Plans?

Saturday 20th January 2018

This Summer, led by Bishop John, approximately 800 pilgrims from across the diocese will gather to take part in the 86th Salford Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. The opportunity to spend some time in the Grotto on the banks of the River Gave where Our Lady appeared on 18 separate occasions to Bernadette is always a very spiritual and emotional experience, but this year will be especially significant as 2018 marks the 160th Anniversary of the Apparitions, the first of which took place on the 11th February 1858.

At the heart of the Salford pilgrimage family are 20 or so sick pilgrims who are cared for in specially adapted hotel rooms by a dedicated team of volunteer doctors and nurses, assisted by a large number of non-medical volunteers. There is a full pilgrimage programme in place and pilgrims can choose to participate as much or as little as they wish. Highlights of the programme include participation in the beautiful Marian Torchlight Procession, Mass at the Grotto and Mass with the Anointing of the Sick. There is also time for pilgrims to take organised excursions or to sit and relax in one of the many cafes and chat with friends old and new.

In this special anniversary year we invite you to answer Our Lady’s call to “Come here in procession and . . . drink of the spring”.

We look forward to hearing from you.
