Schools unite in virtual performance of Jubilee Hymn
Friday 20th December 2024A new video featuring schools from across the diocese has been released ahead of our 2025 Pilgrims of Hope Jubilee.
Schools taking part in the National Schools Singing Programme (SSP) in Salford have been working hard over the past few months to learn the Official Jubilee Hymn in preparation for the Holy Year, which begins on Christmas Eve.
The Jubilee is an ancient tradition dating back to the Old Testament, inviting people to re-establish a proper relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation.
Today, the Catholic Church celebrates this tradition once every 25 years as a year of grace, offering the faithful the opportunity to renew faith through prayer, pilgrimage, acts of charity, and by asking for a reconciling ourselves with God.
The Jubilee year begins on Christmas Eve, with the opening of the Holy Door in St Peter’s Basilica, and we are all invited to share in this powerful year of grace on a local level.
Audiences at our recent SSP Carol Services were treated to a preview performance of the official Jubilee hymn, which have since been compiled into a wonderful celebration video for all to enjoy.
Alex Patterson, Director of Music at Salford Cathedral, who oversees the Salford Schools Singing Programme, said: “It’s been a real thrill to hear the voices of the children and young people from right across the diocese come together in this video in anticipation of the 2025 Jubilee Year.
“It’s been a great way for us to feel connected to each other as a Schools Singing Programme and to showcase a small part of what we do in the 24 schools taking part all year round.
“Thanks to the expertise of our Choral Directors, the children have enjoyed learning and performing the hymn, which we hope will become a recurring anthem for them throughout 2025, and beyond.”
