New Programme
In 2019 we began to implement a new approach to the Sacrament of Confirmation. This new approach will be fully rolled out across the diocese in 2020.
We are encouraging all our parishes to work with young people who are in Year 6 and 7, with a more intensive preparation in Year 8, so that Confirmation is seen as part of an ongoing journey of faith development. We want our young people not just to learn about the Sacrament of Confirmation but also about the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives as Missionary Disciples.
What does this mean for you and your child?
In Eastertide 2021 Bishop John will be confirming the first groups of young people since the recent change in age of Confirmation in our diocese which will now normally be at the end of Year 8.
Each deanery will be providing Confirmation groups based in parishes to help the young people and their families prepare for the celebration of this sacrament.
The programme will be organised locally and run locally. Parishes are now in the process of forming teams of catechists to help run the programme so further details will be available from your local parish by Easter 2020.
It is important that you contact your local parish at this time so that you know how to be involved and have all the necessary details for the particular group that will be in your area.
