An Introduction: Celebrating the Season of Creation

The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through repenting, repairing, and rejoicing together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.

New Challenges

This year, amid crises that have shaken our world, we’re awakened to the urgent need to heal our relationships with creation and each other.

During the season this year, may we all enter a time of restoration and hope, a jubilee for our Earth, that requires radically new ways of living with creation.

The Season of Creation unites the world’s 2.2 billion Christians around one shared purpose. With so much injustice all around us, now is the time for Christians everywhere to come together and show the world how to love each other and creation.

The Season of Creation in our Diocese

From 1 September to 4 October, the global Christian family will find time to pause and to pray. Here in the Diocese of Salford we will continue to build on our pre-existing work, taking practical action and taking time to reflect on our own relationship with our common home.

Over the next few weeks we will also be sharing updates on our Laudato Si Project, resources and inspiration from different parishes and schools on how you can put your faith into action.

Caritas Response

Caritas Salford’s Director, Mark Wiggin, said:

“The Season of Creation is an important opportunity to reflect upon our relationship to each other and to the earth that sustains us. There is no doubt that throughout the world global warming and climate change is adding to the poverty of millions of people and we know that if we don’t change our ways we will be adding to the problems on a daily basis.

“The Season of Creation is the opportunity to think about and pray about how we can change our lifestyle so that we can avoid an unprecedented ecological crisis. A great cultural, spiritual and educational challenge stands before us if we are to avoid the worst consequences of a failure to be open to an ecological conversion.

“If we are to look after our ‘Common Home’ we need the prayers and support of each other that will lead to the positive action that the Season of Creation is calling us to. As we set out on the long path to renewal lets be together and celebrate the beauty of creation and the gifts of life.”

All powerful God,
you created all things, and you are present throughout the universe
and in every creature,
You embrace with your tender love all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love,
so that we may have the strength and courage
to protect all life and the beauty of our world,
preserving it from pollution and destruction.

Fill us with your peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one,
And caring for the Earth, our common home.

Teach us to discover the worth of every creature on this earth,
Let us protect those at risk and in danger,
Encourage us as we seek justice, love and peace.
Stay with us each day, with the power of your grace.
